Carol Hollfelder
Determined Race Car Driver
Carol Hollfelder is full of determination. She
began competing as an equestrian, riding hunter and jumper horses from
age nine until she was injured in a motorcycle accident at eighteen.
As a paraplegic, Carol could no longer compete on horseback, so she
turned her competitive drive toward sports cars.
Carol worked her way up in the racing world, under
the Tiger Racing banner, and now campaigns a Ford Mustang at the professional
level. She competes on the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World
Challenge GT Championship circuit.
Specially engineered hand controls enable
Carol to race competitively at the professional level, while Ford
Motor Company supplies the team with Cobra 4.6 DOHC engines and Tremec
six-speed electrohydraulic gearboxes. The gearboxes employ fingertip
control Formula 1 style paddles that enable completion of almost
imperceptible gear changes in under 250 milliseconds - less than
the blink of an eye. Carol says that she’s
thrilled with the opportunity to partner with Ford, which also provides
technical support for the program.
“Ford has an extensive history of applying racing technology
to their road cars,” she says, “and we believe our development
of adaptive devices will support Ford's 'No Boundaries' approach.”
“We’re excited to have a powerful race car with Ford's
legendary reliability and customer commitment.” Carol adds, “And
we’ll do our best to be successful on the track and in providing
quality feedback to Ford.”
